Welcome Fertility Specialist Dr Rachael Rodgers to WHRIA

Dr Rodgers is a specialist gynaecologist with sub-speciality training in fertility. She treats women with a wide range of fertility issues, including PCOS, endometriosis, recurrent miscarriage, unexplained infertility and low ovarian reserve.Rachael has a special interest in the fertility preservation of women with cancer and is currently completing a PhD at the University of NSW in this topic. Rachael is able to offer a full range of fertility services and is consulting from our Bathurst Street rooms on Fridays.

Welcome Dr Amanda Beech & Dr Lauren Kite to WHRIA

We are delighted to welcome Dr Amanda Beech, an Obstetric Medicine Physician and Endocrinologist, and Dr Lauren Kite, Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, to our WHRIA team.Amanda has an interest in Women’s Health across all ages, including Medical Disorders of Pregnancy, reproductive endocrinology, menopause and osteoporosis, and the prevention of secondary fractures. Amanda can also see men for endocrine disorders such as gender dysphoria and bone and mineral diseases. Amanda consults on Fridays at Bathurst Street. Lauren has completed her training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. She is WHRIA’s Pain Medicine trainee and research fellow, under Professor Vancaillie at the Royal Hospital for Women well as the team at the Royal North Shore Hospital. Lauren can see women for gynaecology and pelvic pain appointments at Bathurst Street on Mondays.

Mood swings, hot flushes, terrible sleep…suffer no more, safe new treatments are available.

Prometrium: natural progesterone capsules

Prometrium®, 100mg of micronized progesterone in a gel cap, is finally available in Australia.  This product has been used by the French since the 90s.  Progesterone is a relatively difficult hormone to get into the human body and rubbing on the skin in the form of creams has been shown not to be very effective. Most sex hormones, including progesterone, are fat soluble and so the French company, Besins, basically micronized the progesterone (making the particles very small) and then dissolved it in sunflower oil, encasing the whole in a gelatine cap.  Clinical trials have shown that oestradiol used with Prometrium represents one of our safest HRTs. John Eden talks about alternatives for the Australian shortage of Oestrogen Patches.

Oestrogen patches are one of the safest forms of HRT.  For example, they do not have any effect on clotting risk (eg. DVT or pulmonary embolism) and so are safer than oral oestradiol for women at risk of clotting. There have been tremendous supply problems with oestrogen patches since late 2016 in Australia, which has caused much confusion amongst doctors, chemists and women using these patches. (more…)

It’s In The Bag Campaign – For women in need at Christmas time

This week Sherin dropped off 30 handbags filled with everyday and luxury items for the It's In The Bag campaign. NSW Member for Summer Hill, Jo Haylen will drop them to the not-for profit organisation, Share the Dignity. A huge thank you to all of you who generously donated and took the time to write a card for women in need at Christmas time. A special thanks to those who donated on our Visualisation For Pelvic Pain education evening on Thursday.The "It's in the Bag" Christmas campaign idea came to Share the Dignity when they realised that women seem to manage the needs of children at Christmas, ensuring they're cared for and made to feel special, but the same can't always be said for those women who put the needs of others before their own.WHRIA is please we could help to make them feel special.

Sherin Jarvis, one of WHRIA's physiotherapists, and her daughter Phoebe have set up a fund raising page for Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia, the money raised helps women in Ethiopia to recover from debilitating childbirth injuries.
